From occasional discomfort to chronic conditions, a variety of problems can disrupt our digestive system and cause discomfort. In this article, we’ll be exploring some of the more common digestive issues and offer ways you can alleviate them.

1. Acid reflux or heartburn

Acid reflux occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest. In more chronic cases, it is called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

How do I treat it?

To suppress acid reflux symptoms quickly, you can consider over-the-counter antacids like Zantac or Pepcid. However, there are a few other ways that can prevent this. For starters, avoid certain foods that trigger the chest burning sensation and eat smaller meals. During sleep, you can also elevate your upper body.

2. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a gastrointestinal condition that directly impacts your gastrointestinal tract. Although the causes of IBS are unknown, it’s often associated with diet and stress.
